According to a report by Cigna, patients concerned about COVID-19 are holding off on being seen for severe symptoms. The report warned that, “pushing off care for acute needs could have major repercussions” (Cigna). Crucial Care nurses and staff are seeing a similar trend.
“Patients have a lot of concerns going to an emergency room right now and we’re seeing many physicians closed right now, so patients can’t see their doctors right now.”
- Crucial Care Nurse, Jose Caban
Crucial Care staff is encouraging those that need to be seen to use phone screening and virtual visits to start getting the care they need today.
“We have patients who stayed home a little longer than they should have from fear of leaving their home. So when they get here, they’re a little sicker than they needed to be.”
- Crucial Care Nurse, Bethany Carlson.
How we are safeguarding non-COVID patients from exposure.
“We’re keeping patients suspected of COVID as isolated as possible. We can test patients in their cars so they don’t have to enter the building. Those that need to come in for treatment use a separate entrance that bypasses the lobby and goes straight to the dedicated rooms we’ve set up.”
- Crucial Care Lab Tech, Chris Grace
Each Crucial Care facility has dedicated rooms for treating suspected COVID cases. These rooms are specially sanitized between appointments. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is also being used by all staff members and provided to patients based on symptoms.
Patients can call ahead and have their symptoms pre-screened by medical personnel. Patients are given the option for virtual visits with our emergency medicine doctors. Virtual appointments cost the same as in-person visits, and patients who might need additional in person treatment will still have the ability to come to our locations.
We’re prepared so you don’t have to wait to get the care you need.
Crucial Care facilities use the same equipment, doctors and medical staff as a hospital ER, but in a free-standing environment. Because our facilities treat more severe health conditions than a traditional urgent care, our staff had the resources they needed and were able implement safety protocols within the first week of COVID.
“We were already set up to deal with Ebola, so we had PPE and other supplies on hand. It didn’t take long at all to get everything set.”
“We’ve never ran out of the supplies needed to protect our patients and staff. We also hold daily conference calls and are constantly updating our processes based on what the CDC reports and what we are seeing. Management has been great at supporting us in adjusting our processes and getting the equipment we need to adapt.”
Curbside COVID testing is available with rapid results.
“We’ve been studying the research on COVID every day: how it’s being tested for, what’s working, and what equipment is needed. We’re constantly adapting and that has allowed us to become a testing site.”
Patients, family members, and essential workers concerned about COVID exposure can be tested as well. Patients concerned about exposure can call ahead. After being pre-screened, they can be tested from their car without having to enter the building. Crucial Care has partnered with reliable testing labs to get results back quickly. Most test results come back 24-48 hours.

Crucial Care facilities in Jacksonville and Orlando treat major and minor cases that include broken bones, abdominal pain and infections as well as asthma, cuts, sprains and more. While the staff is encouraging patients to stay safe at home, the recommendation is for patients to get symptoms reviewed by medical staff.
“It’s important to pay attention to COVID and the CDC recommendations. Keep safe, but remember that we’re still seeing patients. One example is that here In Florida. We have high pollen days and patients who are asthmatic. It’s important that they still get the care they need.”
